About

Gabrielle Brune was a British actress born Gabrielle Hudson on 12 February 1912 in Bournemouth, Hampshire, and died on 18 January 2005 in Chichester, Sussex, at the age of 92. She was the only child of Thomas Habgood Hudson and Adrienne Brune, both theatre professionals originally from Australia. Her mother was an actress and singer, and Brune adopted her mother's surname for her professional career.

Brune began her stage career in 1930 and went on to work across a range of performance contexts, including cabaret, the West End, Broadway, film, and television. Her Broadway appearance came in 1938, when she performed in The Two Bouquets, a production that represented her first professional trip to America. A news report from that year identified her as Mrs. G. M. Thompson, wife of an English actor.

Her film career spanned more than three decades, beginning with Red Pearls in 1930. Among her subsequent screen credits were The Penny Pool and The Wife of General Ling, both from 1937, followed by Garrison Follies in 1940 and He Found a Star in 1941. She continued working in British cinema through the 1940s and 1950s, appearing in Tomorrow We Live in 1943, A Run for Your Money in 1949, Mandy and Hot Ice in 1952, and The Titfield Thunderbolt and The Wedding of Lilli Marlene in 1953. Further film appearances included Three Steps to the Gallows in 1953, The Harassed Hero in 1954, Touch and Go in 1955, Fun at St. Fanny's in 1956, and Girl in the Headlines in 1963.

In 1941, Brune was reported to be recovering from appendicitis and double pneumonia at a river house in Datchet on the Thames. The following year, in 1942, she married an American Army officer, Major Walter J. Currie, in London.
