About
Gabriel Emerson Olds, born in New York City on March 24, 1972, is an American actor and writer whose career has spanned stage, film, and television. He is perhaps most widely recognized for his portrayal of televangelist Pat Robertson in the 2021 film The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
Olds began his acting career at age 15 at The Public Theater in New York, appearing in a production of Measure for Measure in 1987. The following year he was cast in the two-part ABC Disney Sunday Movie 14 Going on 30. In 1992, Dick Wolf hired him for the Law & Order episode "Pride and Joy," in which he played a high school student who kills his father.
His Broadway debut came in 1993 with Any Given Day, a prequel to the Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Subject Was Roses. Olds took a leave from Yale University to appear in the production. He returned to Broadway later in the decade to co-star in Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge at the Roundabout Theater, playing Rodolpho opposite Anthony LaPaglia and Brittany Murphy. The production won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. His Broadway work spans the years 1993 to 1997.
While at Yale, Olds both starred in and directed a production of Richard II. His film credits from this period include the Penny Marshall-produced Calendar Girl and a supporting role in Billy Crudup's Steve Prefontaine biopic Without Limits. He also appeared in John Frankenheimer's Civil War miniseries Andersonville for TNT, as well as television series including Party of Five, Sisters, and Charmed.
In 2000, Dick Wolf cast Olds in the lead role of Mason Scott in The WB political drama D.C., opposite Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Jacinda Barrett. That same year he appeared in the independent film Urbania. His subsequent television credits include Six Feet Under, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Cold Case, Numb3rs, Medium, Commander in Chief, E-Ring, Franklin & Bash, Private Practice, The Event, Heroes, Criminal Minds, The Mentalist, Boardwalk Empire, NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Los Angeles, SEAL Team, and Amazing Stories. He appeared in the Bruce Willis film Surrogates, playing a cyborg cop, and filmed scenes as "Ed" in Tommy Lee Jones's The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, though those scenes were deleted from the final cut.
Olds contributed voice work to video games including Capcom's Dead Rising, in which he played the character Paul Carson, as well as Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. In 2007 he starred in the Los Angeles stage production of the two-person play Tryst at the Black Dahlia Theater, earning six award nominations and winning Best Actor honors from both the LA Weekly Theater Awards and the LADCC. That same year he filmed two television pilots, Conspiracy for Lifetime and Winters for NBC, the latter executive produced by House creator David Shore. His independent film Apartment 407 won Best Picture at the San Diego International Film Festival in 2017.
In addition to acting, Olds writes screenplays and freelance journalism, with work published by Condé Nast Publications and Salon.com, covering subjects including air travel after September 11 and plastic surgery in Los Angeles.
On August 7, 2024, Olds was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department and charged with seven counts of felony sexual assault involving at least three victims over a period of ten years, with bail set at $3.5 million. On September 9, 2024, five additional counts of sexual assault were filed against him.
