Frederick Edwin Beir was born on September 21, 1927, in Niagara Falls, New York, and went on to build a career as an American actor across stage, film, and television. He died on June 3, 1980, of cancer in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 52, and was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Beir launched his professional career in 1950 with an appearance on the television series The Philco Television Playhouse. His stage work brought him to Broadway in 1955, where he appeared in The Terrible Swift Sword.
His television career spanned several decades and encompassed a wide range of programs. Among the series on which he guest-starred were The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Wagon Train, The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., Mission: Impossible, The Time Tunnel, Mannix, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Hawaii Five-O, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Rockford Files, Barnaby Jones, Man From Atlantis, Dallas, and The Odd Couple. His final screen appearance came in 1980 on the television series Lou Grant.
Beir also accumulated credits in film, appearing in productions including The Violators, Assassination, Fort Courageous, Three Dollars of Lead, M.M.M. 83, and The Organization.
