About
Frank Nastasi (January 7, 1923 – June 15, 2004) was an American actor and comedian born in Detroit, Michigan. His career spanned television, stage, and comedy performance across several decades.
Nastasi began his television work in Detroit, where he portrayed Gramps the animal expert on Wixie Wonderland. He subsequently took over the role previously held by Clyde Adler on Lunch with Soupy, the program featuring comedian Soupy Sales. On that show, Nastasi performed multiple characters, including White Fang, Black Tooth, Pookie, and Hippy.
His stage career brought him to Broadway, where he appeared in productions spanning from 1963 to 1987. His Broadway credits included Avanti!, Lorenzo, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He also appeared alongside Sammy Davis Jr. in Golden Boy.
Nastasi died of a brain tumor on June 15, 2004.
