Born in Brooklyn, New York, he built his professional foundation in stock theater, beginning with Hooley's Stock Company before performing with several additional stock theater groups.

Losee's stage career extended across more than three decades and encompassed a wide range of productions. His earliest recorded Broadway credit was The Law of the Land in 1896, followed by Cumberland '61 in 1897 and A Young Wife in 1899. He continued steadily into the twentieth century with appearances in Richard Carvel (1900), Sky Farm (1902), and two productions of Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall in 1903 and 1904. The years 1905 and 1906 brought further credits including Nancy Stair, When We Dead Awake, Friquet, Mizpah, and The Rose of the Rancho.
