About
Frank Gabrielson (March 13, 1910 – January 24, 1980) was an American writer and performer born in New York City who worked across stage, film, and television. His Broadway career spanned from 1934 to 1937 and included work as both a performer and a contributor to musical and dramatic productions. Among his Broadway credits were the musical Gypsy Blonde, the revue Life Begins at 8:40, The Illustrators' Show, and But for the Grace of God.
On stage, Gabrielson also contributed to Jerome Moross's revue Parade in 1935. He co-wrote The More the Merrier, also known as The Great Whitewash, with Irvin Pincus, which was produced in 1941. Additional stage work included Days of Our Youth, performed under the alternate titles The Bo Tree and Most Likely to Succeed, which dates to 1939. In 1942, he adapted The Wizard of Oz for The Muny, the outdoor municipal theatre in St. Louis.
Gabrielson's screenwriting credits include Something for the Boys (1944), Don Juan Quilligan (1945), It Shouldn't Happen to a Dog (1946), and Flight of the Doves (1971). His television work encompassed a wide range of productions, among them Leave It to Beaver, National Velvet, Mama, The Real McCoys, Suspense, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. He wrote multiple episodes of Shirley Temple's Storybook, including the episode titled The Land of Oz.
Gabrielson was married to actress Franc Hale. He died on January 24, 1980.
