About
Frank Converse is an American actor born on May 22, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama from the Carnegie Institute of Technology, now known as Carnegie Mellon University, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1962.
Converse maintained a Broadway career spanning from 1966 to 2002, appearing in a range of dramatic productions. His Broadway credits include The Philadelphia Story (1980), Design for Living (1984), A Streetcar Named Desire (1988), Lady in the Dark (1994), First One Asleep, Whistle, Blood Brothers, and Our Town. Off-Broadway, he starred in The House of Blue Leaves (1971) and South Pacific. In 2007, he appeared at the Hartford Stage in Thornton Wilder's Our Town alongside Hal Holbrook.
His television work encompassed five series: Coronet Blue, N.Y.P.D., Movin' On, The Family Tree, and Dolphin Cove. He portrayed Harry O'Neill on One Life to Live and Ned Simon on As the World Turns, and held a brief role on All My Children. In 1971, he appeared opposite Bing Crosby in the TV movie Dr. Cook's Garden, and he played Morgan Harris in Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel. He starred in a 1984 episode of Tales of the Unexpected and appeared as Bill Davenport in an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Converse also appeared in television commercials for Black & Decker in the late 1980s. He guest-starred on numerous 1970s series, including The Mod Squad, Medical Center, Police Story, Rhoda, The Love Boat, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and The Bionic Woman.
His film roles include Hurry Sundown (1967), Hour of the Gun (1967), in which he played Virgil Earp, The Rowdyman (1972), Killer on Board (1977), Cruise Into Terror (1978), The Pilot (1980), The Bushido Blade (1981), Spring Fever (1982), Solarbabies (1986), Everybody Wins (1990), and Primary Motive (1992).
Converse was previously married to Carol Tauser and then to Astrid Ronning. He is married to actress Maureen Anderman.
