About

Francis Pierlot (July 15, 1875 – May 11, 1955) was an American stage and film actor whose career spanned several decades across both Broadway and Hollywood. Born in Massachusetts, he accumulated more than 90 film credits between 1914 and 1953 while also maintaining a sustained presence in the New York theater world.

Pierlot's Broadway career ran from 1919 to 1938 and included appearances in productions such as Knickerbocker Holiday, Washington Jitters, Save Me the Waltz, Too Many Heroes, and Storm Over Patsy, among others. His stage work preceded his full-time transition to film, which did not occur until 1940, when he was 63 years old, despite having made his first screen appearance as early as 1914.

On screen, Pierlot became a reliable character actor known for portraying grey-haired, well-dressed figures in supporting roles, frequently cast as judges, priests, and lawyers. Among his more substantial film appearances was a role as Jean Simmons' manservant in The Robe (1953), the biblical epic that served as his final screen credit.

Pierlot died in Hollywood, California, on May 11, 1955, at the age of 79. He was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
