About

Frances Fuller, born on March 16, 1907, in Charleston, South Carolina, was an American actress whose Broadway career spanned from 1928 to 1963. She was the niece of James Francis Byrnes, who served as a Supreme Court Justice, Secretary of State, and Governor of South Carolina, and is the grandmother of actress Rachel Miner.

Fuller trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, completing her studies there in 1928. Her stage career launched that same year with a role in The Front Page, and she went on to accumulate an extensive list of Broadway credits over the following decades. Among her productions were Five Star Final (1930), Cafe (1930), I Loved You Wednesday (1932), The Animal Kingdom (1932), Her Master's Voice (1933), Stage Door (1936), Excursion (1937), Home Is the Hero (1954), and The Lady of the Camellias (1963). She was married to producer Worthington Miner, with whom she had three children, and appeared in numerous Broadway productions throughout the 1930s.

Fuller's work extended beyond the stage. Her film career began with One Sunday Afternoon in 1933, and she later became a presence on television as a cast member of A Flame in the Wind, a soap opera that aired on ABC from 1964 to 1966.

In addition to her performing career, Fuller held a long association with the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, serving as its president and director from 1954 to 1964, and continuing as director from 1964 to 1974. She died on December 18, 1980, in Manhattan, New York City.
