Florence Nash

Florence Nash (née Ryan; October 2, 1888 – April 2, 1950) was an American actress, vaudeville comedienne, and author born in Troy, New York. She was the daughter of James H. and Ellen Frances Ryan (née McNamara), and the sister of theater and film actress Mary Nash. Following the death of their father, a lawyer, their mother married Philip F. Nash, a vaudeville booking executive, and the two sisters adopted his surname.

Nash launched her acting career in 1907 and achieved her first significant success in 1912 with the role of Aggie Lynch in Within the Law. Her Broadway work spanned from 1907 to 1930 and encompassed both musical and dramatic productions. Among her musical credits were Algeria and Miss Hook of Holland, while her stage work in plays included Lady Clara, The Two Orphans, and A Lady's Virtue.

Beyond the Broadway stage, Nash was active as a vaudeville comedienne through the 1930s, appearing in a variety of sketches. She was also a published author, releasing a book of verse titled June Dusk in 1918.

Nash later transitioned to a film career in Hollywood. Her most prominent screen role came in 1939, when she appeared as Nancy Blake in the MGM production The Women. She retired from acting that same year and spent the following decade living in Hollywood, California, where she died on April 2, 1950.
