About

Florence Dixon was an American actress, model, and silent film performer whose career spanned stage, screen, and commercial advertising during the late 1910s and early 1920s. Raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania, she built a multifaceted presence in the entertainment and advertising industries during that era.

Dixon's modeling work brought her significant public recognition. She posed for artists and photographers, among them the illustrator James Montgomery Flagg, and appeared in newspaper features showcasing new fashions. Her most prominent commercial association came through a national advertising campaign for Coca-Cola, which featured her image widely enough in print and display advertisements that she became known publicly as the "Coca-Cola Girl." In 1920, she also lent her visibility to a charitable cause, participating in the promotion of a doll collection produced by French widows as a fundraiser for postwar relief efforts.

Her film career ran from 1918 through 1924 and encompassed a substantial number of silent pictures. Her screen credits include Independence, B'Gosh (1918), The Lonesome Girl (1918), One Every Minute (1919), Never Say Quit (1919), and Tough Luck Jones (1919). She continued working steadily into the early 1920s with appearances in Captain Swift (1920), The Silent Barrier (1920), The Road of Ambition (1920), Hidden Charms (1921), Jimmy's Last Night Out (1921), The Supreme Passion (1921), The Stowaway (1921), Props (1921), and Wild Women (1921). Her later film work included Anna Ascends (1922), Women Men Marry (1922), Back Home and Broke (1922), Wife in Name Only (1923), and It Is the Law (1924).

Concurrent with her film and modeling activities, Dixon appeared on Broadway between 1919 and 1920. Her stage credits from that period include the musical Tickle Me and The Little Blue Light.
