Finbar Lynch

Finbar Lynch is an Irish actor born on 28 August 1959 in Dublin, Ireland. At the age of 11, he relocated with his family to Inverin, a village in County Galway, where his father operated a clothing factory established under a program designed to promote business investment in Gaeltacht regions. Lynch has two brothers.

Lynch returned to Dublin at 18 and sought acting work by approaching local theatres directly, though he was rejected due to insufficient experience. He took a position as a stagehand and subsequently auditioned successfully for a minor role in Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire, a production that launched his acting career.

His Broadway career spanned 1996 to 1999, during which he appeared in A Midsummer Night's Dream and starred in Not About Nightingales, a rediscovered Tennessee Williams play. In the latter production, Lynch played the role of Canary Jim, a performance that earned him a 1999 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play and a 1999 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play.

Lynch's television work includes recurring roles in the soap opera Glenroe, as well as appearances in Proof, Breathless, and the miniseries Small World. He portrayed Doctor Martin Wells in Treadstone, a television series connected to the Bourne franchise. Additional television credits include Waking the Dead, Dalziel and Pascoe, Inspector George Gently, DCI Banks, Game of Thrones, Foyle's War, and The Mallorca Files. In November 2025, it was announced that Lynch would appear in the thriller film Banquet, directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and produced by David Yates, alongside Meghann Fahy, Alfie Williams, and Corey Mylchreest.

Lynch is married to actress Niamh Cusack. Their son, Calam Lynch, is also an actor.
