Farah Alvin

Farah Alvin is an American theatre actress born on September 28, 1976, whose Broadway career spanned from 1994 to 2018. She is the daughter of cinematic poster artist John Alvin and artist Andrea Alvin, and grew up in Los Angeles.

Alvin demonstrated early promise as a performer while still a teenager. At sixteen, she won the Spotlights Award, a scholarship competition associated with the Los Angeles Music Center, and performed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. During her senior year of high school, she earned her Equity card performing in the Los Angeles premiere of Fame: The Musical. At eighteen, she received a scholarship to the Brooklyn College music conservatory, which brought her to New York City. Within three weeks of relocating, she secured a role in A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden.

Her first Broadway credit came in the revival of Grease, launching a career that would include numerous productions on the Great White Way. Subsequent Broadway appearances included Saturday Night Fever, Nine, The Look of Love, A Saturday Night, Funny Girl, and Chess.

Alvin also maintained an active Off Broadway career. She played Marcy in an Off Broadway production of I Love You Because, and in 2011 performed the title role in the Off Broadway musical One Night with Fanny Brice. Her performance as Missy in The Marvelous Wonderettes earned her a 2009 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.
