Ewen Bremner

Ewen Bremner is a Scottish actor born on 23 January 1972 in Edinburgh. The son of two art teachers, he attended Davidson's Mains Primary School and Portobello High School. Though he originally aspired to become a circus clown, television director Richard D. Brooks gave him an early opportunity in screen acting.

Among Bremner's first notable screen appearances was a role as a Glasgow schoolboy in Charles Gormley's Heavenly Pursuits in 1986. He also took the lead in a BBC Scotland feature-length adaptation of William McIlvanney's short story "Dreaming" in 1990.

Bremner is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Daniel "Spud" Murphy in Danny Boyle's 1996 film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel Trainspotting, a role he reprised in the 2017 sequel T2 Trainspotting. Notably, in the 1994 stage production of Trainspotting, Bremner played the lead role of Mark Renton, the character later portrayed by Ewan McGregor in the film. His screen work also includes the role of Mullet in Guy Ritchie's Snatch, Shawn Nelson in Black Hawk Down, Julien in Julien Donkey-Boy, and supporting roles in Pearl Harbor. In 2017, he produced the short film No Song to Sing.

Bremner made his Broadway debut in 2022, appearing in Hangmen. He has one daughter with actress Marcia Rose, whom he met during the filming of Skin.
