About
Evans Evans (November 26, 1932 – June 16, 2024) was an American actress born in Bluefield, West Virginia. Over the course of her career, she accumulated credits in more than 25 feature film and television projects, working across Broadway, Hollywood films, and episodic television.
Evans made her Broadway appearances between 1957 and 1960, with credits including The 49th Cousin, A Distant Bell, and The Dark at the Top of the Stairs. Her role in the latter production was that of Flirt Conroy, performed at the Music Box Theatre in 1957 alongside Teresa Wright, Pat Hingle, and Sandy Dennis.
Her television work in the early 1960s brought her to several prominent anthology and western series. She appeared in the Twilight Zone episode "A Hundred Yards Over the Rim" (Season 2, Episode 23, 1961) as Mary Lou, and in the Gunsmoke episode "Harpe's Blood" (Season 7, Episode 4, 1961) as Jenny. She also appeared in the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode "The Big Score" as Dora, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour episode "I Saw the Whole Thing" as Penny Sanford, and the Wagon Train episode "The Hollister John Garrison Story" as Melody Drake in 1963.
Among her film roles, Evans is perhaps best known for playing Velma Davis in the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde. Additional film credits include All Fall Down (1962), Grand Prix (1966) in an uncredited role as Mrs. Randolph, Impossible Object (1973) as Elizabeth, The Iceman Cometh (1973) as Cora, Prophecy (1979) as Cellist, and Dead Bang (1989) as Mrs. Gebhardt.
On December 13, 1963, Evans married director John Frankenheimer, and the two remained married for nearly 40 years until his death on July 6, 2002. Evans died on June 16, 2024, at the age of 91.
