About
Ethel Remey (February 22, 1895 – February 28, 1979) was an American actress whose career spanned stage, Broadway, and television across several decades. She was at times credited professionally under the name Ethel Everett.
Remey began her stage career in the early 1920s with the Forrest Winant Players, a theater company based in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Her Broadway debut came in 1922, when she appeared alongside Billie Burke in Rose Briar, a production written by Booth Tarkington. That appearance marked the start of a Broadway career that would continue through 1947 and encompass a range of productions across multiple genres.
Among her Broadway credits were the productions Tenting Tonight, Loco, and The High Road. Remey also appeared in the comedy Chicken Every Sunday and the drama Our Town, demonstrating her range across both comedic and dramatic material.
Later in her career, Remey became widely recognized for her work in daytime television. From 1963 to 1977, she portrayed Alma Miller, the mother of Lisa Miller — a character played by Eileen Fulton — on the long-running soap opera As the World Turns. The role became the most prominent of her career and brought her sustained visibility with a national audience over more than a decade.
