About

Erville Alderson (September 11, 1882 – August 4, 1957) was an American character actor born in Kansas City, Missouri, whose career spanned both the Broadway stage and the screen. He appeared on Broadway between 1914 and 1920, with credits including Boys Will Be Boys, Beyond the Horizon, The Battle Cry, Broadway and Buttermilk, and Home Again. His screen career proved extensive, encompassing nearly 200 film appearances between 1918 and 1957, with roles that frequently cast him as strong-willed or wise men.

On January 14, 1918, Alderson married American actress Lillian Worth in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The marriage ended in divorce by 1925. Among his notable film roles was his portrayal of Jefferson Davis as a young Army officer in the 1940 production Santa Fe Trail.

Alderson died on August 4, 1957, in Glendale, California. He is interred in lot 299, section 12 of Hollywood Forever Cemetery near Los Angeles.
