About

Ernest Glendinning (February 19, 1884 – May 17, 1936) was a British-born American actor who performed on Broadway from 1903 to 1935. Born in Ulverston, England, he came from a theatrical family: his father was British-American actor John Glendinning, and his mother was actress Clara Braithwaite. In 1907, his father married actress Jessie Millward, who became Ernest's stepmother. His sister Jessie was the first wife of theatrical producer Gilbert Miller. Glendinning received his education at Margate College before entering the profession.

His stage career began in 1903 with a walk-on role in the Annie Russell production Mice and Men. Over the following three decades, Glendinning worked in both vaudeville and Broadway, accumulating credits that included Mrs. Moonlight, Prunella, Before You're 25, Seven Keys to Baldpate, and A Roman Servant. Among his Broadway appearances, his work opposite Marguerite Clark in the stage version of Prunella stood out as a notable success.

Beyond the stage, Glendinning appeared in three films, among them the 1922 Marion Davies picture When Knighthood Was in Flower. He also appeared in an early sound short in 1930.
