About
Erin Ashley Mackey is an American stage actress and singer born on June 19, 1986, in Fullerton, California. She is best known for portraying Glinda in multiple productions of the musical Wicked, and her Broadway career spans from 2003 to 2016, encompassing productions including Amazing Grace, In Transit, Chaplin, and Sondheim on Sondheim.
Mackey's early exposure to performance came through the Fullerton Children's Repertory Theater, where a manager spotted her and arranged professional auditions for film and television. Her first screen credit was a role in Disney's 1998 film The Parent Trap, followed by an appearance in the 1999 production You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Fashion Party, in which she played Jenna. In 2003, she received an L.A. Music Center Spotlight Award for Non-Classical Voice. After graduating from Fullerton Union High School in 2004, she enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University to continue her theatrical training.
Following her first year of college, Mackey auditioned for Wicked and was cast as a swing on the national touring production. After several months on tour, she joined the Chicago company as an ensemble member and understudy for Glinda, succeeding Stacie Morgain Lewis in the role on October 24, 2006. During her time in Chicago, she starred opposite Kristy Cates and later Dee Roscioli as Elphaba, departing the production on April 13, 2008, and was replaced by Kate Fahrner. She then joined the Los Angeles production, replacing Megan Hilty as Glinda on May 20, 2008, and performed opposite Teal Wicks as Elphaba through September 28, 2008. Mackey made her Broadway debut in the role on August 11, 2009, replacing Alli Mauzey, and again starred alongside Dee Roscioli. Her final Broadway performance as Glinda was on January 10, 2010, after which she was succeeded by Katie Rose Clarke. Nearly a decade later, Mackey reprised the role in the Second National Tour of Wicked, performing from February 26, 2019, through September 22, 2019, opposite her In Transit co-star Mariand Torres as Elphaba. She was succeeded in that production by Allison Bailey.
Mackey's Broadway work beyond Wicked includes several notable productions. She appeared in Sondheim on Sondheim, which began previews at Studio 54 on March 19, 2010, officially opened on April 22, and concluded its limited engagement on June 27, 2010. On September 13, 2011, she succeeded Laura Osnes as Hope Harcourt in the Broadway revival of Anything Goes. In 2012, she originated the role of Oona O'Neill in the Broadway production of Chaplin. She starred as Mary Catlett in the world premiere of Amazing Grace in October and November 2014, a role she later reprised on Broadway. From November 2016 through April 2017, she appeared on Broadway in the a cappella musical In Transit.
Her stage work outside of Broadway includes the York Theatre production of I Remember Mama in October 2010, a June 2011 reading of a new musical adaptation of Sense and Sensibility in which she played Lucy Steele, and the 2013 Pittsburgh CLO production of Phantom, where she played Christine. In March 2014, she performed the role of Johanna in the New York Philharmonic's concert of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and that same year played Clara Johnson in the South Coast Repertory Theatre production of The Light in Piazza. She portrayed Ensign Nellie Forbush in South Pacific at both the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2014 and Goodspeed Musicals in 2020. Additional regional credits include Dot in the Guthrie Theater's 2017 production of Sunday in the Park with George and Grace Farrell in the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Annie. In November 2022, she starred as Mrs. Phagan in the New York City Center gala presentation of Parade.
In 2009, Mackey married actor Stanton Nash, who had appeared alongside her in the Chicago production of Wicked in the role of Boq.
