Eric Snowden was an English-born actor born in London on August 8, 1888, who built a career spanning Broadway, film, radio, and television before his death in Bellevue, Washington, on June 27, 1979.
Snowden's stage career on Broadway ran from 1914 to 1919 and included productions of Monsieur Beaucaire, Toby's Bow, Freedom, As You Like It, and The Merchant of Venice, among others.
Beyond the stage, Snowden established a substantial presence in American radio. He was a cast member of The Burns and Allen Show from 1932 to 1950 and contributed to Encore Theater between 1946 and 1949, Favorite Story from 1946 to 1949, and Escape from 1947 to 1954. From 1949 to 1950 he portrayed Dr. Watson on The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. He made a brief appearance in the January 8, 1950, episode of The Jack Benny Program and appeared in episode 626 of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, titled "The Shankar Diamond Matter," which aired on February 15, 1959.
Snowden's film work included The Lion Man in 1936, The Sun Never Sets in 1939, and an uncredited role in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much in 1956. On television, he appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Presents in 1956, playing Hanson in Season 1, Episode 31, "The Gentleman from America," where he was credited as Eric Snowdon. He also appeared in two episodes of Leave It to Beaver's first season, as a Clothier in Episode 11 and as a Salesman in Episode 19.
