Ellen Crawford is an American actress whose career has spanned stage and screen across several decades. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Crawford grew up in Illinois before pursuing a professional acting career.
Her Broadway work took place between 1969 and 1982 and included appearances in Hair and Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? Beyond Broadway, Crawford performed in A Touch of the Poet by Eugene O'Neill and worked at the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, Utah, where her stage roles included Mrs. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Miss Havisham in Great Expectations.
Crawford is widely recognized for her television work, particularly her portrayal of Nurse Lydia Wright on the medical drama ER. She held that role from 1994 through 2003 and returned to the series in 2009 for its finale. During the show's third season, her character, Nurse Wright, married officer Alfred Grabarsky, a role played by Crawford's husband, veteran character actor Mike Genovese. Crawford also made guest appearances in the comedy-drama Desperate Housewives in 2010.
