Elizabeth Marvel is an American actress born on November 27, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, who was raised in Mohnton, Pennsylvania. She trained at the Interlochen Arts Academy before attending the Juilliard School, and her Broadway career spans from 1992 to 2019.

Marvel's professional stage debut came in 1992, when she played Isabella in Measure for Measure at Canada's Stratford Festival. Her stage work earned her Obie Awards for performances in Thérèse Raquin and Misalliance in 1998, A Streetcar Named Desire in 2000, and Hedda Gabler in 2005. Her Broadway credits include Picnic, King Lear, Top Girls, and Seascape. She also originated the role of Brooke Wyeth in Other Desert Cities Off-Broadway, a part later played by Rachel Griffiths in the production's Broadway premiere. In 2009, her performance in Fifty Words earned her a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Play.

On television, Marvel first gained broad recognition through four seasons as Detective Nancy Parras on the CBS series The District, which ran from 2000 to 2004. She went on to portray Solicitor General Heather Dunbar in the Netflix political drama House of Cards and was cast as President-elect Elizabeth Keane for the sixth and seventh seasons of Showtime's Homeland. She held a recurring role in the second season of FX's Fargo and appeared in the Netflix miniseries Unbelievable, as well as playing a character known as The Major in the series Manifest. Guest and recurring roles across her television career include appearances on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Nurse Jackie, 30 Rock, The Good Wife, and The Newsroom, among others. In 2009, she portrayed Louisa May Alcott in the PBS American Masters documentary Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women.

Marvel's film work includes Burn After Reading, directed by the Coen brothers, Synecdoche, New York, and True Grit, in which she played the adult Mattie Ross. She also appeared in Lincoln alongside her husband, actor Bill Camp, as well as in The Bourne Legacy, Hyde Park on Hudson, and The Meyerowitz Stories. Marvel and Camp married on September 4, 2004, and have a son born in 2007. The family resides on a farm in Vermont.
