About
Elias Koteas is a Canadian actor born on March 11, 1961, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His father worked as a mechanic for the Canadian National Railways and his mother was a milliner; both parents are of Greek descent. Koteas completed his education at Vanier College in Montreal before going on to graduate from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. In 2000, he appeared on Broadway in True West.
Koteas built a substantial film career across several decades, taking on lead and supporting roles in a wide range of productions. His earlier film credits include Some Kind of Wonderful (1987), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), in which he portrayed sports-crazed vigilante Casey Jones, and The Adjuster (1991). He reprised the Casey Jones role in a second Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. Additional prominent credits from the 1990s include Exotica (1994), The Prophecy (1995), in which he played the lead role of Thomas Daggett, Crash (1996), Fallen (1998), and The Thin Red Line (1998). His film work continued into the following decade with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Let Me In (2010), Shutter Island (2010), and Defendor (2010), a Canadian superhero film starring Woody Harrelson. For his performance in Ararat (2002), Koteas received the Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor.
On television, Koteas appeared in season four of The Sopranos as Dominic Palladino and in the season two finale of House as a man who shoots Dr. Gregory House. From 2014 to 2018, he starred on the NBC series Chicago P.D., a spin-off of Chicago Fire, playing Alvin "Al" Olinsky, a longtime undercover detective in the Intelligence Unit. He also appeared across the other series within the Chicago franchise.
