About
Eileen Percy was an Irish-born American actress whose career spanned Broadway, silent film, and journalism. Born in Belfast on 21 August 1902, she moved with her family to Brooklyn, New York, in 1903 before returning to Belfast. She came back to Brooklyn at age nine and attended a convent school there. Following her graduation, Percy worked as a model for artists, among them Charles Dana Gibson, and several of her posed photographs appeared on magazine covers.
Percy began her Broadway career in 1915, appearing in productions through 1917. Her stage credits included the musical Stop! Look! Listen! and Dance and Grow Thin. That same year she transitioned to film, going on to appear in more than 60 pictures between 1917 and 1933, establishing herself as a notable presence in the silent era.
After her film career concluded, Percy shifted to print journalism, working as a staff correspondent for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. In her personal life, she married Ulrich Busch in 1919; the couple divorced in 1930. Her second marriage, in 1936, was to songwriter Harry Ruby. Percy was portrayed by Arlene Dahl in the 1950 film Three Little Words.
She died in Los Angeles, California, on 29 July 1973, and her remains are interred at Chapel of the Pines Crematory.
