About
Eileen Huban (1896 or 1897 – October 22, 1935) was an Irish-born actress who built her career on the New York stage during the 1910s and 1920s. Born in Gort, Loughrea, Ireland, she was the youngest of nine children born to Michael Huban and Winifred Mullins Huban. She received her early education at a convent school before relocating to the United States by 1913 to join her widowed mother and sisters.
Huban made her first public appearance as a performer in 1913, singing at the Irish Historic Pageant held at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City. Her stage career developed steadily from there, with early credits including Lonesome-like (1915), The Grasshopper (1917), Old Friends (1917), On With the Dance (1917), Cheating Cheaters (1918), and Crops and Croppers (1918). She also appeared in the silent film Find the Woman in 1922.
Her Broadway career spanned from 1917 to 1932 and encompassed a wide range of productions. Among her credits were Dark Rosaleen (1919), Paddy the Next Best Thing (1920), Hindle Wakes (1922), Fanny Hawthorn, King Henry IV, Part I (1926), Window Panes (1927), Mixed Marriage (1930), and Troilus and Cressida (1932).
Beyond performing, Huban served multiple three-year terms on the board of directors of the Actors' Fidelity League. She died in New York City in 1935 following six months of illness, at the age of 38. The actress Susan Sullivan is her grand-niece.
