About
Edward Martindel (July 8, 1876 – May 4, 1955) was an American actor who built a career across both stage and film. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, he was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Martindell. His professional singing debut took place under the management of Henry Savage.
Martindel's Broadway career spanned from 1902 to 1919, during which he appeared in 16 productions. His first Broadway credit came with Dolly Varden in 1902, and his final stage appearance was in The Little Blue Devil in 1919. Among his notable Broadway roles, he starred in The Gay Musician and The Alaskan. He also appeared in The Little Blue Light, the musical Good Morning, Judge, and Freedom, along with additional productions throughout his time on the stage.
Beyond the theater, Martindel pursued a substantial film career, appearing in more than 80 films between 1915 and 1946. His work in cinema extended his performing career well past his final Broadway credit, spanning three decades on screen.
Martindel died on May 4, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, from a heart attack. He is interred at Chapel of the Pines Crematory.
