About

Edward D. Grover (October 23, 1932 – November 22, 2016) was an American actor who worked across film, stage, and television over a career spanning nearly five decades. Born in Huntington Park, California, to Edna (née Rhoads) and Abram Dee Grover, he spent portions of his early life in Colorado and Illinois before graduating from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo in 1950. Following military service in the Korean War from 1954 to 1956, Grover earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo in 1957 and received a scholarship for postgraduate study at the University of Texas at Austin in 1958. He subsequently graduated from the American Shakespeare Festival Academy and studied theatre at the Juilliard School.

Grover launched his acting career in 1959, building his early stage experience through work with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the McCarter Company, the Antioch College Shakespeare Festival, and repertory theatre. His Broadway career ran from 1965 to 1975 and included appearances in the plays Black Sheep and Postmark Zero.

On television, Grover became widely recognized for his recurring role as Lieutenant Hal Brubaker, the supervisor of Tony Baretta, in the detective series Baretta. He also played Lawyer Adam Reynolds in the soap opera The Doctors and accumulated guest appearances on numerous programs, including The Jeffersons, Archie Bunker's Place, The Ropers, One Day at a Time, Hill Street Blues, Quincy M.E., The Greatest American Hero, The A-Team, Fantasy Island, and Hart to Hart.

His film work included roles in Serpico, in which he played Inspector Lombardo, as well as Death Wish, Law and Disorder, Report to the Commissioner, and the 1973 film Who?, where he portrayed the character Finchley. Grover was additionally active in voice-over work, lending his voice to commercials for the 1984 Apple Macintosh introduction, Visa's "Everywhere" campaign, Delta Air Lines, and Nissan. He retired from acting in 2008 and died in November 2016 in Rolling Hills Estates, California, at the age of 84.
