About
Edward Gargan (July 17, 1902 – February 19, 1964) was an American actor who worked in theater, film, and television. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Irish parents, he was the elder brother of actor William Gargan.
After leaving college, Gargan pursued a career on the stage, accumulating experience in productions including My Maryland, Rose Marie, and Good News. His Broadway career spanned from 1926 to 1932 and included several notable credits. In 1926, he appeared in both Polly of Hollywood, a musical, and the play Black Boy. In 1930, he took on the role of Patrolman Mulligan in a production of Strictly Dishonorable. He later appeared in Face the Music in 1931.
Gargan subsequently transitioned into film and television work, though many of his screen appearances were uncredited.
In his personal life, Gargan was married to the former Catherine Conlan. He died on February 19, 1964, at Columbus Hospital in New York City at the age of 62 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
