About

Edna Milton Holland was born on September 20, 1895, in New York, New York, into a family with deep roots in the American theatrical world. Her father was comedian Edmund Milton Holland, and her mother was actress Emity Seward. Her uncle, Joseph Holland, was also an actor. As a child, Holland performed in stage productions directed by David Belasco, establishing an early foundation in professional theater.

Holland's career in film began in 1915, when she started appearing in silent pictures. Her early screen credits included Always in the Way, The Feud Girl, Mary Moreland, and The Masked Rider. During the production of The Masked Rider, she met fellow actor Robert Taber, whose given name was Stuart Fordham Tabor and who was originally from Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York. The two married on May 15, 1919. In her silent film work, Holland was frequently cast as "The Other Woman" opposite actresses such as Mary Miles Minter.

Her Broadway career spanned from 1913 to 1938 and encompassed a range of productions, including Lorelei, Fulton of Oak Falls, Dear Old Darling, Post Road, and Moral Fabric, among others. Following an absence from film of nearly two decades, during which she maintained an active presence on the stage, Holland returned to screen work in the late 1930s. Now middle-aged, she transitioned into supporting and minor roles, frequently portraying professional women such as teachers, nurses, and secretaries.

Holland's career extended into television, and she appeared in The Andy Griffith Show in 1966, which marked her final screen role. Her stage, film, and television work collectively spanned more than six decades. She died on May 4, 1982, at the age of 86, from a ruptured aneurysm.
