About
Edmund Donovan is an American actor born on August 24, 1990, whose work spans theater, film, and television. He earned a BFA in acting from Boston University's College of Fine Arts in 2012 and went on to receive an MFA from the Yale School of Drama in 2017.
Donovan's stage career has been closely associated with the work of playwright Samuel D. Hunter. His performance as Joe in Hunter's Greater Clements in 2020 earned him the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play, the Lucille Lortel Award, and the Obie Award. The previous year, he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for his work in Hunter's Lewiston/Clarkston in 2019.
His Broadway credits span from 2013 to 2021 and include appearances in The Snow Geese and Clyde's. In 2021, he played Jason in Second Stage Theatre's production of Clyde's, written by Lynn Nottage.
Beyond the stage, Donovan appeared in the 2015 film Akron, in which he played Christopher. The film received recognition at a number of LGBT film festivals that year. His television work includes roles on Hightown, Betty, High Fidelity, and Orange Is the New Black.
Donovan lives in New York City and is in a relationship with actress Juliana Canfield.
