About
Edmund Donald, also identified in records as Edmund Francis MacDonald, was an American actor born in Boston on May 7, 1908. He had one brother. Donald died on September 2, 1951, at the age of 42, following a stroke he suffered at home that led to hospitalization and ultimately a fatal brain hemorrhage at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Los Angeles. He was interred at Los Angeles National Cemetery.
Donald began building his acting foundation through stock theater work on Long Island before transitioning to the Broadway stage. His Broadway debut came in 1929 with Getting Even. He returned to Broadway in 1931 in Gasoline Gypsies, followed by Her Tin Soldier in 1933 and I, Myself in 1934.
Beyond the stage, Donald established himself as a character actor primarily in B films. His screen credits include Call of the Canyon (1942), The Mantrap (1943), and Detour (1945). His final film appearance was in Red Canyon in 1949. In radio, he was a regular on Hollywood Showcase, a variety program, in 1938, and later appeared regularly on Box 13, the Alan Ladd radio program.
