About

Eddie Korbich is an American actor, singer, and dancer born on November 6, 1960, in Washington, D.C., who grew up in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting from the Boston Conservatory in 1983 and has maintained an active stage career spanning Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional theater from 1989 through 2022.

Korbich's early professional work included a 1985 appearance in A Little Night Music at the Equity Library Theatre in New York, followed by the Off-Broadway production of Flora the Red Menace at the Vineyard Theatre and the Off-Off-Broadway The No-Frills Revue at Musical Theatre Works, both in 1987. He starred in Godspell at Lamb's Theatre in 1988. His Broadway debut came with Singin' in the Rain at the Gershwin Theatre, and in 1989 he took on the role of Tobias Ragg in the Circle in the Square revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, alongside Bob Gunton as Sweeney and Beth Fowler as Mrs. Lovett.

The 1990s brought a range of notable regional and Off-Broadway engagements. Korbich originated the role of assassin Giuseppe Zangara in the 1990 Off-Broadway premiere of Assassins at Playwrights Horizons, a role for which he became particularly recognized. He also appeared in the original production of Casino Paradise at the Plays and Players Theatre and the Alley Theatre premiere of Jekyll & Hyde as Bisset the apothecary. In 1993, he was part of the original production of The Fields of Ambrosia at the George Street Playhouse. He played Paul Bland in the original Off-Broadway production of Eating Raoul at the Union Square Theatre, and in 1994 starred as Enoch Snow in the Carousel revival at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. Regional credits from the period include Redhead at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut, where he played George Poppett.

Korbich's work in the 2000s included the original cast of Taking a Chance on Love at the York Theatre in 2000, for which he received an Obie Award, and Seussical the same year, in which he appeared as Ensemble and Grandpa Who. A twelve-minute number in which he played The Onceler in The Lorax was cut during the Boston tryout of that production. In 2001 he appeared in the Encores! concert version of Bloomer Girl as Ebenezer Mimms. He starred as R.M. Renfield in Dracula: A Chamber Musical at North Shore Music Theatre in 2002, and in 2003 joined the original Broadway cast of Wicked as a swing and understudy for Doctor Dillamond and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He appeared in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of After the Night and the Music in 2005 as Keith, and later that year played George in the Los Angeles premiere of The Drowsy Chaperone. When The Drowsy Chaperone transferred to Broadway in 2006, Korbich reprised the role, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical. Also in 2006, he appeared in a limited Off-Broadway run of The Most Happy Fella at Lincoln Center's State Theatre as the Doctor. He joined the Face the Music revival at New York City Center in 2007 and originated the role of Scuttle in The Little Mermaid on Broadway in 2008.

In 2010, Korbich performed at the La Jolla Playhouse in the world premiere of Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin. The following year he played Gus, Growltiger, and Bustopher Jones in Cats at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach, California. He appeared in the original Broadway cast of A Christmas Story in 2012 as Santa Claus and the Doctor, and in 2013 was part of the Broadway production of Breakfast at Tiffany's, which starred Emilia Clarke. Later that same year, Korbich joined the original cast of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder on Broadway. His stage credits also include The Music Master.

In his personal life, Korbich has been partnered with Andy Leech since 1992. The two have appeared on stage together, including in a production of I Do! I Do! at 54 Below in 2016.
