About

Eddie Kaye Thomas, born Edward Kovelsky on October 31, 1980, in New York City, is an American actor whose career spans stage, film, and television. He is Jewish, and Eddie Kaye Thomas is a stage name, a fact confirmed publicly by his American Pie co-star Jason Biggs in a 2020 interview. Thomas is married with three children; he and his wife became parents in 2018, the same year his television series Scorpion was cancelled.

Thomas began performing on stage at age seven, accumulating Broadway experience between 1992 and 1997. His Broadway credits include Four Baboons Adoring the Sun, in which he appeared in 1992, and the drama The Diary of Anne Frank in 1997, the latter performed opposite Natalie Portman. He graduated from New York's Professional Children's High School already an established presence on the Broadway stage. He has continued to pursue stage work beyond his Broadway years, including an off-Broadway appearance in 2006.

His onscreen career began with a role on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live, followed by a guest appearance on Are You Afraid of the Dark? in an episode titled The Tale of the Curious Camera. He appeared on Law & Order twice in 1996, playing different characters in each appearance. On the Thanksgiving 1998 edition of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Thomas played a character named Ricky, portrayed as Conan and Andy's son returning home from college. His early film work included the independent film Illtown, a supporting role in the supernatural horror film The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999), and a part in James Toback's Black and White, in which he co-starred alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Jared Leto.

Thomas rose to mainstream prominence through his supporting role as Paul Finch in the teen comedy American Pie (1999). He reprised the character in three sequels: American Pie 2 (2001), American Wedding (2003), and American Reunion (2012), taking on a starring capacity in the later installments. Additional film credits include Freddy Got Fingered (2001), in which he played the title role for director Tom Green, Dirty Love (2005), and Blind Dating (2006). He also appeared as the character Rosenberg in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008), opposite David Krumholtz.

On television, Thomas held a main role as Russell Wise on the WB sitcom Brutally Normal (2000), followed by a starring role as Mike Platt on the WB sitcom Off Centre (2001–2002), which he made alongside John Cho. He then joined the Fox sitcom 'Til Death as Jeff Woodcock, appearing during its first two seasons in 2006 and 2007 before his character was removed for budget reasons, though he continued to appear in the third season. A number of season two episodes aired beginning October 8, 2008, due to the writers' strike. He also appeared in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation titled No More Bets. From 2010 to 2011, Thomas starred as David "Kappo" Kaplan in the HBO comedy-drama How to Make It in America. Beginning in 2014, he was a principal cast member of the CBS series Scorpion, playing Dr. Tobias M. Curtis, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and genius behaviorist. The series ran for four seasons and 93 episodes before its cancellation in May 2018. In 2020, Thomas reunited with American Pie co-stars Alyson Hannigan and Jason Biggs in the Fox sitcom Outmatched.

Since 2005, Thomas has provided the voice of Barry Robinson on the animated sitcom American Dad!, which has aired on Fox and TBS. Outside of acting, he appeared in commercials for Blockbuster Video, Snickers, and Nike, and was featured in the music video for 311's song Flowing. In 2014, he appeared as Mark in DirecTV's original comedy Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight, and in 2018 he joined the cast of the thriller film Shattered Memories, also released under the title Last Night.
