A Heisman Trophy winner as running back at Ohio State University in 1995, he spent nine NFL seasons—eight with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and one with the Dallas Cowboys. He earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1996, was selected to four Pro Bowls, and retired in 2004 with more than 10,000 rushing yards. His acting credits include God's Trombones at the Belcourt Theatre, Julius Caesar and Othello with the Nashville Shakespeare Festival, and The Whipping Man at the Nashville Repertory Theatre.
