About

Eddie Foy III (February 10, 1935 – November 3, 2018) was an American actor and casting director born in New York City. The son of Eddie Foy Jr. and Anna Marie McKenny Foy, he was the grandson of vaudeville legend Eddie Foy Sr. He attended Riverdale Country School in New York.

Foy made his stage debut at the age of ten in a Broadway revival of The Red Mill in 1945, a production that marked his sole Broadway credit. After this early foray into performance, he transitioned into casting, a field in which he would work for over four decades.

Over a 42-year career, Foy served as director of casting for ABC and as vice president of casting for NBC before establishing himself as an independent casting director. His television credits spanned some of the most widely watched programs of their respective eras, including The Donna Reed Show, Naked City, Dennis the Menace, Route 66, Straightaway, The Farmer's Daughter, Gidget, I Dream of Jeannie, The Monkees, The Flying Nun, That Girl, Julia, Room 222, Happy Days, Soap, Hill Street Blues, Charlie's Angels, Mork & Mindy, and Barney Miller. He also contributed casting work to television movies and miniseries including Roots and Shōgun, as well as feature films such as Planet of the Apes and The Great White Hope. Later in his career, Foy served as a talent executive for The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. In recognition of his contributions to the advancement of television casting, he was honored by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Foy was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the California Army National Guard on July 21, 1962, at Camp San Luis Obispo following completion of Officer Candidate School, and was assigned to Company A, 240th Signal Battalion. On September 16, 1995, he married Jan Standley in Sherman Oaks, California. Foy died on November 3, 2018, following a fall at his home in Denison, Iowa.
