About

Earle Foxe, born Earl Aldrich Fox on December 25, 1891, in Oxford, Ohio, was an American stage and film actor whose career spanned several decades. His parents were Charles Aldrich Fox, originally from Flint, Michigan, and Eva May Herron. Foxe received his education at Ohio State University, where he took part in theatrical productions before pursuing a professional career in performance.

After relocating to New York City as a young man, Foxe established himself as a stage actor, spending two years as the leading man of the Garrick Stock Company. During his time on the New York stage, he performed alongside Douglas Fairbanks. His Broadway appearances between 1914 and 1921 included the musical Dancing Around in 1915, Come Seven in 1920, and the musical Princess Virtue in 1921. In the early 1920s, Foxe also appeared in films produced in New York City and resided at the Lambs Club at 130 West 44th Street.

In 1914, Foxe married vaudeville performer Maybelle Meeker, known professionally as "Dainty Marie," in Leavenworth, Kansas, on August 7. The marriage lasted approximately four months in practice, though its legal dissolution took a year.

Foxe moved to California in 1922 and signed a contract with Fox Film Corporation. He continued making regular film appearances through 1937, with two minor roles following that period. In 1928, he became the founding president of the Black-Foxe Military Institute, a military school for boys located in Hollywood, a position he held until 1960. Foxe died on December 10, 1973.
