About

Eamon Morrissey, born on 25 January 1943 in Dublin, Ireland, is an Irish actor whose career has spanned stage, television, and film across several decades. Raised in the Dublin suburb of Ranelagh as an only child, Morrissey demonstrated an early aptitude for performance, winning multiple medals for recitation at the Feis Ceoil. While attending Synge Street CBS as a teenager, he worked part-time as a stage manager in Dublin theatres. He left school before completing his Leaving Certificate to pursue acting in London, where he spent several years taking on various odd jobs before his career took shape.

His breakthrough came in 1964 when he was cast as Ned, the emigrant, in the world première of Brian Friel's Philadelphia, Here I Come! That production subsequently transferred to Broadway, where Morrissey remained with the cast for an extended period. His Broadway appearances spanned 1966 to 1968 and included both Philadelphia, Here I Come! and Winners. In July 1967, during his time in the United States, Friel's play Lovers opened at the Gate Theatre in Dublin with Morrissey in the leading role of Joe.

In 1974, Morrissey adapted the satirical writings of Brian O'Nolan into a one-man show called The Brother, in which he portrays a pub philosopher over a two-hour solo performance. The show became a long-running success with audiences internationally. He subsequently developed two additional one-man shows: Patrick Gulliver, drawn from the works of Jonathan Swift, and Joycemen, featuring characters from James Joyce's Ulysses.

On television, Morrissey earned a Jacob's Award in 1977 for his work on Frank Hall's satirical series Hall's Pictorial Weekly, where he appeared weekly as a range of characters, most notably The Minister for Hardship, a figure based on then-Finance Minister Richie Ryan. He later appeared as Father Derek Beeching in the Father Ted episode Speed 3 on Channel 4. Beginning in 2009, Morrissey joined the RTÉ One soap opera Fair City as Cass Cassidy, a role he has continued to play. His performance in that series earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Irish Film and Television Awards in 2011.

In film, Morrissey took the central role of Arthur in Peter Ormrod's 1986 feature Eat the Peach.
