About
Eamon Farren is an Australian actor born on 19 May 1985 in Ingham, North Queensland, who grew up on the Gold Coast from the age of six. He attended Benowa State High School, where he served as school captain and participated in a French Immersion Program in which students received at least half of their instruction in French. Farren went on to graduate from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 2007, citing his brother, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Gary Oldman as his primary influences.
Farren's professional career began in 2001 with the Showtime television film The Outsider, which starred Naomi Watts and Tim Daly, followed by a guest appearance in the Australian live-action series The Sleepover Club in 2002. In 2007, he was cast as Cpl. John Powell in the HBO miniseries The Pacific. Throughout his early career he also worked with several Australian theatre companies, including the Sydney Theatre Company, the Griffin Theatre Company, and the Belvoir Street Theatre. In 2008, he appeared in The Man in the Attic with the Sydney Theatre Company, the film Lucky Country, and the Seven Network series All Saints.
Farren's film work expanded with starring roles in X: Night of Vengeance (2011) and Jennifer Lynch's Chained (2012), in which he played Rabbit, a boy enslaved and raised by a serial killer portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio. His television profile grew further with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation tele-movie Carlotta (2014), in which he played Danny/Ava, a transgender companion of the central character. That performance earned him the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award for Best Guest or Supporting Actor in a Television Drama in 2015.
His theatre work in 2014 included the role of Edward Ridgeway in Switzerland, for which he received a Sydney Theatre Awards nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Mainstream Production, and the role of Elliott in Girl Asleep, a production later adapted into a film in which Farren appeared as a different character, Adam/Benoit Tremet. In 2015, he played Kirill in the Sydney Theatre Company's production of The Present.
Farren's Broadway debut came in 2017, when he reprised the role of Kirill in The Present, the Broadway production of the same play, which also marked Cate Blanchett's Broadway debut. The production is listed in his verified credits as The Passing Present. That same year, Farren was cast as Richard Horne in the 2017 revival of the American television series Twin Peaks. He subsequently appeared in the film Winchester (2018), the series The ABC Murders (2018), and The Witcher, beginning in 2019.
