About

Dorma Leigh, born Dorothy Mabel Woodley in 1890 and died in 1969, was a British dancer, actress, and playwright whose career spanned performance and writing.

On Broadway, Leigh appeared in the 1913 musical The Girl on the Film, in which she danced alongside Jan Oyra. The production marked her credited Broadway appearance.

Beyond performance, Leigh worked as a playwright. In 1917 she wrote the play Brownie.

In her personal life, Leigh married the writer Peter Cheyney in 1919. The marriage ended when Cheyney petitioned for divorce in 1931 on grounds of adultery; however, because Cheyney himself admitted to adultery, the judge granted a decree nisi in Leigh's favour rather than his.

A biographical file on Leigh is held by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London as part of its Theatre Museum collection.
