Born March 14, 1904, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Mary and Charles Eaton, Doris Eaton joined the Ziegfeld Follies in 1918 as the youngest Ziegfeld girl ever cast in the show. She was only 14, having lied about her age to secure the role. She married Joe Gorham and later taught at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios. Her second marriage was to Paul Travis. She published an autobiography, The Days We Danced.

Film credits include "At the Stage Door," "The Broadway Peacock," "Tell Your Children," "The Call of the East," "High Kickers," "Fashion Follies," "Taking the Count," "Street Girl," "The Very Idea," and "Man on the Moon."

Broadway theater marquees were dimmed in her honor on May 12, 2010.
