About
Donna Keath (died 1962) was an American actress whose career spanned radio, stage, and theatrical organizing. Though her stage work brought her visibility, she was most widely recognized for her sustained presence in radio drama.
Keath's stage career included an appearance at the Provincetown Playhouse in March 1943, where she performed in The Playboy of Newark. The following year, she made her Broadway debut in Sophie, a comedy that opened in December 1944, in which she portrayed the character Irene Halenczik. The production had a short run. Her most prominent performing role came through radio, where she played Lynne Dineen on the long-running soap opera Young Dr. Malone from 1939 to 1960.
Beyond performing, Keath was active as a writer and theatrical organizer. In 1943 she co-authored the piece Leave It As You Find It with Andrew Rosenthal. She later collaborated with playwright Alden Nash on a three-act play, Soon the Morning, which was registered for copyright in July 1946. Keath was also a founding member of Stage for Action, a progressive theatre company established in December 1943, and became its chairman in April 1944. She described the organization's mission as using professional talents to explain the significance behind current events.
Keath held a national board position with the American Federation of Radio Artists and served as one of the New York delegates at the organization's 1943 National Convention in Chicago. Her career was significantly affected when her name appeared in the anti-communist publication Red Channels in June 1950, resulting in her being blacklisted from television. Keath married psychiatrist Peter B. Neubauer on October 24, 1945, and later married Jerre Mangione on March 14, 1955.
