About
Born October 9, 1923, in Plymouth, England, Donald Sinden was the son of Alfred Edward Sinden and Mabel Agnes. During World War II he served in a company entertaining the armed forces across England. He trained for two terms at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art before going on to play major roles at the Royal Shakespeare Company, among them King Lear and Othello. He authored two autobiographical works: "A Touch of the Memoirs" and "Laughter in the Second Act." He and actress Diana Mahony married and had two children: actor Jeremy Sinden and West End producer Marc Sinden.
His film credits include "Balto," "The Day of the Jackal," "Villain," "Mogambo," "Run for Your Wife," "The Cruel Sea," "The Island at the Top of the World," "Above Us the Waves," and "Doctor in the House." On television he appeared in "Midsomer Murders," "Agatha Christie's Marple," "Alice in Wonderland," "The Prisoner," "Judge John Deed," "Arena," "The Treasure Seekers," and "BBC Play of the Month."
Donald Sinden was awarded the CBE in 1979 and knighted in 1997.
