About

Donald Curtis, born Curtis D. Rudolf on February 27, 1915, in Spokane, Washington, was an American actor whose career spanned film, television, and Broadway. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl W. Rudolph, he went on to appear in dozens of films and television series over the course of his professional life.

Before entering the acting profession, Curtis pursued an academic career, holding teaching positions at Northwestern University, Allegheny College, and Duquesne University. His transition into performance included early stage work at the Pasadena Community Playhouse, which preceded his appearances on Broadway.

Curtis made two Broadway appearances between 1947 and 1949. He originated from Cheney, Washington, and his stage credits included Caribbean Carnival in 1947 and Anybody Home in 1949. His television work included a 1950 CBS role as Adam Conway in the comedy Detective's Wife.

Curtis married Margaret Jennings in 1940. In later life, he left the entertainment industry and returned to using his birth name, Curtis D. Rudolf, as he became a religious leader. He served as a minister at the First Church of Religious Science in New York City, then as leader-director of the Church of Religious Science in Philadelphia. He subsequently held pastoral roles at the Church of Religious Science in Santa Barbara, California, and the First Church of Religious Science in Dallas, Texas.

Curtis died on May 22, 1997, in Desert Hot Springs, California, at the age of 82.
