About
Don Fellows (December 2, 1922 – October 21, 2007) was an American actor whose career spanned Broadway, British theater, film, and television across six decades. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was raised in Madison, Wisconsin, and later earned a degree from the University of Wisconsin. During World War II, Fellows served in the United States Merchant Marine. He went on to become a member of the Actors Studio.
Fellows maintained an active presence on Broadway between 1948 and 1968, appearing in productions that included South Pacific, Only in America, Marathon '33, Generation, and Promise. In 1973, he relocated to London to continue developing his stage career, and the move marked the beginning of a long association with British film and television.
His screen work in the United Kingdom and internationally encompassed a wide range of productions. Film credits included Spy Story (1976), The Omen (1976), Twilight's Last Gleaming (1977), Valentino (1977), Licensed to Love and Kill (1979), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Eye of the Needle (1981), Who Dares Wins (1982), Electric Dreams (1984), Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987), and Velvet Goldmine (1998). On British television, Fellows appeared in Space: 1999, Z Cars, Lillie, The Sandbaggers, The Citadel, The Beiderbecke Tapes, The Bill, and Inspector Morse.
Fellows also worked in British radio. He appeared alongside fellow American expatriate actor Ed Bishop in the BBC radio series The BBC Presents: Philip Marlowe, and in 1992 took on the role of Conn Kortchmar, an American GI, in the Radio 4 drama The Archers.
Throughout his life, Fellows lived with a stutter, which he was able to suppress while performing. He died on October 21, 2007, at the age of 84.
