About
Devin Kawaoka is an American actor born around 1983, recognized for his work across theater, television, and film. Of half-Japanese heritage, he was raised in Rochester, New York, where he attended Brighton High School and developed a passion for skiing during his teenage years. He went on to study at New York University as an undergraduate before earning a place in the Graduate Acting Program there on a full merit scholarship.
Kawaoka's stage career includes a notable turn in Unnatural Acts at the Classic Stage Company, a performance that earned him the Rosemarie Tichler Award. He subsequently appeared in Jeremy O. Harris' Slave Play, first on Broadway in 2021 and later at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.
On television, Kawaoka holds a recurring role on the NBC drama Chicago Med, where he portrays surgical resident Dr. Kai Tanaka-Reed. He also appears in a recurring capacity on the Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking, playing a character named Charlie.
