Derek Cecil is an American actor born on January 5, 1973, in Amarillo, Texas. He attended William H. Taft High School in San Antonio, Texas, before pursuing higher education at the University of Houston and the American Conservatory Theater.
Cecil has worked across television, film, and stage throughout his career. On Broadway, he appeared in Les Liaisons Dangereuses in 2008. His stage training through the American Conservatory Theater provided a foundation that carried into his professional work across multiple mediums.
On television, Cecil is perhaps best known for his recurring role as Seth Grayson on the Netflix political drama House of Cards. He also held lead roles in the series Push, Nevada and The Beat, both of which had short runs. Additional television appearances include recurring roles on Pasadena and Banshee. More recently, he joined the cast of the Showtime series Black Monday, portraying Detective Lester.
