Dennis Lipscomb (March 1, 1942 – July 30, 2014) was an American actor born in Westbury, New York. Before pursuing a career in performance, he earned an engineering degree from Clarkson University.
Lipscomb's Broadway career spanned from 1977 to 1979 and included four productions: Are You Now or Have You Ever Been, The Elephant Man, Night and Day, and Romeo + Juliet.
His screen career began with the 1980 feature film Union City. Throughout the early 1980s and into the 1990s, Lipscomb accumulated a substantial list of film credits, among them Love Child (1982), WarGames (1983), Eyes of Fire (1983), The Day After (1983), A Soldier's Story (1984), Crossroads (1986), Amazing Grace and Chuck (1987), Retribution (1987), Sister, Sister (1987), The First Power (1990), and Under Siege (1992).
On television, Lipscomb held a recurring role as the mayor of the fictitious town of Sparta, Mississippi during the first season of In the Heat of the Night in 1988. He also appeared on WKRP in Cincinnati and T.J. Hooker, and guest starred on the CBS series Wiseguy in 1987, playing the character Sid Royce/Elvis Prim. His television work additionally included appearances in commercials.
