Denise Burse-Mickelbury is an American actress who was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her professional theatrical training at several Atlanta-based institutions, including the Just Us Theatre, the Alliance Theatre, and the Atlanta Children's Theater.

Burse built her stage career across a range of productions, among them Harriet's Return, Ground People, Pearl Cleage's Flyin' West, and Radio Golf. Her Broadway work includes the 1997 production of An American Daughter, marking her credit on the Great White Way.

On television, Burse is perhaps most recognized for her recurring role as Claretha Jenkins on Tyler Perry's House of Payne.
