Deborah Magid

Deborah Magid is a theater artist based in Cleveland, Ohio, whose career has spanned Broadway performance, opera, and playwriting. She appeared on Broadway between 1979 and 1996, with credits including Camelot, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Angela Lansbury - A Celebration. In addition to her stage work, Magid performed as a singer with The Santa Fe Opera.

Since 2008, Magid has directed her focus primarily toward playwriting. Her plays have been produced at a range of theaters, including Cleveland Public Theatre, Dobama Theatre, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, and the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Among her works, The Secret Life of Birds and The Ring were both produced at Dobama Theatre in 2013 and 2012, respectively. The Consequence of Impression was staged at Remy Bumppo Theatre Company in 2010, and Costumbrismo, or Khandihba Wars received a production at Cleveland Public Theatre in 2008. A workshop production of Rouge Étude or How Sherlock Holmes Became a Misogynist was presented as part of Cleveland Public Theatre's Big Box series of new works in 2015. Pen Name was produced at the Dramatists Guild Friday Night Footlights in 2011, and Debate Your Future! was staged at the Cleveland Museum of Art in 2010.

Magid holds membership in several professional organizations, including the Dramatists Guild of America, the International Centre for Women Playwrights, the American Composers Forum, the Cleveland Play House Playwrights Unit, and Dobama Theatre's Playwrights Gym. She is also the founder of SWAN Day - CLE.
