David Torrence, born David Tayson on 17 January 1864 in Edinburgh, Scotland, was a performer who built careers on both the Broadway stage and in film. He died on 26 December 1951 in Los Angeles. He was the brother of actor Ernest Torrence.
Torrence's Broadway career spanned from 1900 to 1921 and encompassed a range of productions across multiple genres. His stage credits included the play The Right to Strike, the comedy A Kiss for Cinderella, and the drama Smilin' Through. He also appeared in the musical The Little Whopper and the production Daybreak, among other works during his two decades on the New York stage.
In addition to his theatrical work, Torrence established a substantial presence in film, appearing in more than 100 productions between 1913 and 1939. His contributions to cinema were recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
